Look up superfoods and you’re likely to find berries, eggs, broccoli and quinoa. Great common foods, no question, but there’s more out there! We’ve compiled a list of superfoods that for some reason very few are talking about.

Often we do know that something is good for us without knowing the reason why. Case in point maybe with superfoods. There are some of these amazing foods that have always been hailed as nutritious and good for health. However, thanks to modern technology and health processes, today we are able to identify these foods as superfoods and this is because they do not possess just a single nutrient, but many.

Superfoods are nutrient-rich foods that offer us many benefits at the same time so in effect you get more nutrition with lesser amount of food that you eat. Look at your lunch or dinner and you’re probably hard pressed to find even a single superfood in it. Instead it’s probably chockfull of cholesterol laden junk food that can do wonders to your waistline (increase it) and damage your heart and arteries irrevocably.

Superfoods are actually easily available and it’s only in recent times that they’ve been identified as superfoods with near super powers. Also, since everyone is now into organic food, it’s become easier to find these foods in most places where you wouldn’t have found them even a few years ago.

Why should you eat superfoods?

Obviously, it’s for the amazing health benefits that they offer. These foods are rich in nutrients and work wonders in keeping your mind and body healthy. But, this is not all. Once you start consuming superfoods on a regular basis, you will start noticing the difference in not just how you feel, but also how you look.

Eating these foods regularly makes your body healthier, helps you flush out toxins more frequently and leaves you with a healthy glow. It also helps you maintain your weight and you can continue to remain healthy without having to take annoying vitamins or mineral tablets. Superfoods in fact contain all the right nutrients in the right proportions. But there’s more. So far, you’ve only read that they contain nutrients. But what nutrients are these?

Typically superfoods contain antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, amino acids, essential fatty acids, polysaccharides, enzymes and glyconutrients to name a few. However, the best part is that these foods are clean and pesticide free, organic sources of these nutrients, so in effect they act faster and work better.

So, what are these superfoods and where can you find them? Here’s a list of top 16 superfoods that you should include in your diet and see the remarkable changes that they bring in your life.

1. Goji berries – Also known as wolfberry, desert thorn and matrimony vine, these berries are typically found in Asia and America. Goji berries have many interesting legends associated with them, particularly Chinese. What makes these so popular is that they can grow well in harsh weathers of both extremes and they can even survive desert type of environment. Goji berries are deep red in color and are often dried and eaten as raisins. So, how does the Goji berry help you?

Increases immunity

Protects liver

Improves eyesight

Improves quality of blood

However, the most important aspect of Goji berries is that it is a very rich source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are crucial to keep you young but also to improve vision and eyesight. Goji berries are known to aid the production of choline, which stops the production of free radicals and prevents degeneration of the brain due to diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
Goji berries can be added to tea or soups to make them healthier or you could just munch on them as you would with raisins. Goji berries can also be blended into smoothies or juices or added to other recipes to fortify them.

2. Açaí – This South American fruit has been one of the richest food sources for the people of the Amazon but it has started gaining immense popularity across the world as well for some of its excellent health benefits. The Amazon people of Brazil have been using the Açaí from many years and they seem to have fundamentally known that it had all these superfood powers without being formally educated about it. Scientists today are still discovering all the wonderful things that the Açaí berry can do, but nevertheless, some of its well known benefits have been documented already. Here’s a quick look at what the Açaí berry can do.

3. Cacao – There’s always some sort of research being conducted on chocolate and every time the findings are always positive. This goes to show that chocolate is indeed good for us, but if you’ve noticed, the findings are always in favor of dark chocolate, a chocolate with very little sugar content. If you travel a little backwards and see, the origin of chocolate, that is, the cacao beans are actually much more than a source of chocolate. These are superfoods in themselves and have some amazing health benefits.

Cacao has a fascinating history with plenty of legends surrounding it, but what can be deduced is that until sugar was added, the drink made from cacao was considered highly potent. Today, there’s plenty of research available to suggest that cacao is indeed really good for us. Here are the ways in which cacao can help us as far as health is concerned. Now don’t run out and gorge on chocolate, cacao is a stimulant so moderation is key! Here are some amazing benefits of using cacao:

Increases blood flow to the brain and enhances brain function

Has a high concentration of anti oxidants such as polyphenols, catechins and epicatechins. Anti oxidants as we all know are the holy grail of youth and a disease free life.

The magnesium in cacao is good for the heart, helps prevent constipation and even eases menstrual cramps.

Cacao also has iron, which makes it a great weapon to fight against anemia.

Cacao contains chromium, a trace mineral which works wonders to maintain the balance of blood sugar.

Manganese, another trace mineral that can be found in cacao is great when it comes to building up of hemoglobin.

Zinc, another mineral that cacao contains is known for its essential role in enhancing our immune system.

Raw cacao contains vitamin C as well which has its own gamut of uses.

Raw cacao contains essential omega 6 fatty acids. An important thing to note is that cooked and processed chocolate contains rancid omega 6 fatty acids or trans fats which are not healthy for you.

Cacao beans contain certain compounds that can trigger weight loss, make you feel good and improve your mood considerably.

The fiber in cacao beans works wonderfully to cleanse the digestive system.

Cacao can be found as cacao beans with or without the skin, cacao nibs, cacao butter, powder or paste and ideally it should all be organic. A great idea would be to buy raw cacao products and include them in your usual drinks such as tea or coffee or even coconut water. You can also use cacao nibs in desserts but ideally if you love dark chocolate, you should be able to adjust to the bitter taste of raw cacao which can do so many wonders for your body. Science yet has to understand the many layers and benefits of chocolate, but these are indeed pretty much there for everyone to see.

4. Maca – Maca is typically found in the Andes, at a high location where the land is barren and weather conditions extreme. These harsh conditions could probably be the reason why the maca root is chockfull of nutrients which makes it a highly valued superfood. Maca root in its various forms, either powdered or cooked has been traditionally consumed by the people of the Andes for many years and in recent times, scientists are recognizing it for its immense nutritional value. The world over, people are waking up to the enormous health benefits it offers, making it a highly prized superfood. Here’s how it can help you:

Increases stamina and libido

Helps the endocrine system function properly, thereby eliminating hormonal imbalances

Lowers anemia and alleviates menstrual discomfort and cramps

Is also known to be effective in fighting stomach cancer and tuberculosis

Rich source of fatty acids and sterols

Has a good concentration of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sulfur, potassium, phosphorus as well as vitamins such as B1, C, B2 and E

Known to help women deal with menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and mood swings

Works wonders at reducing the symptoms of altitude sickness

Maca root is usually dried and powdered and can be consumed as part of smoothies, teas, milk or coffee. Maca chocolate bars and energy bars are also available, but the most amazing thing is that maca works best with cacao so you can combine these two superfoods and create your own super powered superfood.

A word of caution though. As with anything, extremes are not a good idea, so never consume more maca than you should because it can cause adverse reactions in your body. Hyperactivity, insomnia, diarrhea and dehydration are some of the side effects that can occur as a result of over dosage of maca.

Maca is indeed one of the more potent types of superfoods because these can cause changes in the way you live and react as well. It’s always advised to use superfoods cautiously and never in excess because of the side effects that can result.

Next week, we’ll learn about some more amazing superfoods, some you may not have heard of. Until then, eat well and stay healthy!

Every time something new comes along in the health food scene, there’s a huge buzz around the product with plenty of people opting for it and other’s condemning it as mere hype. It’s been the same with noni juice, which has become popular for those who are conscious about their health.

Noni juice is derived from the noni fruit, also known as the Great Morinda. This fruit is found in abundance in the Polynesian islands, Southeast Asia as well as Australia, but it’s juice is indeed a worthy discovery, one that has bettered the lives of many people. Scientists are constantly corroborating newer findings about noni with clinical studies and in depth research.

As a result of the hype around noni juice, many people have tried to cash in on it and this has caused quite a few people to regard it as a high level MLM scam. However, this is not the case everywhere. Remember that there are people who have benefited from noni juice.

Actually, the way in which noni juice is processed is of prime importance. This is because it loses its efficacy if too much heat is used, or if it is diluted. Some producers of noni juice use artificial sweeteners because noni juice has a strong taste and smell and is not palatable. Some even use preservatives that does more harm than good. So before you go out to buy your dose of noni juice, look out for the way in which it has been processed. Fresh noni is a richer source of nutrients than bottled juice, so keep that in mind before you buy your noni juice.

Finally, why should you drink noni juice? How can it benefit you?

Noni juice is known to be rich in phytochemicals that can help in prevention of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, Alzheimer’s etc.

Noni juice can also help in improving mood and inducing sleep in those suffering from sleep related disorders.

Better skin, better hair and fewer allergy related reactions are what some of the users of noni juice are claiming.

Noni juice is known to have many therapeutic effects – antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, you name it, it does it!

Some people consume noni juice to correct premature aging and build better bone strength.

One of the fewer known applications of noni juice is that it has been known to alleviate burns. Freshly squeezed noni juice applied directly can help in healing burns to a great extent.

Noni juice has a few more external applications also. When rubbed on the skin, it can help reduce skin conditions such as eczema or ringworm. It can be used as a poultice and a compress as well. Some people even rub noni juice on their scalp for lustrous hair and better scalp health.

Most often you will find that the noni juice that you get in most health stores is reconstituted and not the real thing. There are some brands which give it to you as it comes and so, they can be a little hard to stomach because of their strong taste. What’s important is that it has all the goodness you need.

Concentrated noni juice has all these benefits, although you might want to know about some of the side effects as well. Noni juice when consumed regularly brings about a detoxification process in your body that may lead to a few side effects such as appearance of boils and pimples, foul breath, diarrhea or gas, headaches and joint pain. While these do sound discomfiting, they are apparently only a way for your body to get rid of all the toxins. Drinking plenty of water will help in flushing out those toxins more easily.

While there are many variants in the market, you might wonder if acquiring pure noni juice is difficult because of the price. Yes, pure noni juice is obviously priced higher because of the effort and time taken in processing it in the right manner. But irrespective of the price, here are a few tips to ascertain whether the noni juice you have is good or not.

Bubbles – Shake the bottle to see if bubbles form. If the bubbles dissipate quickly, it means that there’s a higher concentration of water than noni juice in it.

Color – When you shake the bottle, see if the color of the bubbles is brownish. This indicates purity.

Residue – Good noni juice always has plenty of residue at the bottom. Turn the bottle upside down and note how much residue is visible.

Taste and smell – Finally, observe the taste and smell of the noni juice. Noni is strong smelling stuff and it is definitely an acquired taste. If it has been flavored with other fruit juices, it might not be pure.

Those who swear by noni juice claim that there are plenty of benefits, but if you’re still a bit skeptical consult your doctor first before you start consuming it. This is, especially, applicable if you have a known heart condition or any other health related condition.

Acai is the latest greatest thing in natural health, sharing a long tradition of superfoods with mangosteen, pomegranate, and vitamin E, and, if you go back far enough, kelp, cod liver oil, and even lard. But are the purported acai berry health benefits real?

If you are a lab rat or a fruit fly, you can be assured that acai berry have scientifically proven health benefits for you. One study found that acai berry extract helps fruit flies live longer on a high-fat diet. For fruit flies that live in the dumpster behind McDonald’s who can buzz over to the dumpster behind the local juice bar, this is great news.

Another study found that a diet that derives 5 per cent of calories from acai berry protects against N-nitrosomethylbenzylamine-induced esophageal cancer in lab rats. (The same study found that strawberries, wolfberries, blueberries, and blackberries work equally well.) And yet another study has found that frozen acai berry pulp slows damage in aging rat brains. If you are an elderly lab rat with a drinking problem, acai is clearly for you.

But what about humans? Is there any real proof of acai berry health benefits for humans?

In a word, no. Acai berry juice tastes great. It is sustainably harvested with sensitivity to the environment and with respect for the people who gather it. More people like a little acai in their juice than like a lot, but it’s great way to add variety to healthy beverages.

The thing is, acai isn’t a scientifically proven superfood. And it’s not a diet food. To quote the world’s most famous promoter of acai berry, Chris Kilham (who introduced me to acai berry about 10 years ago): “Just a quick word about the acai diets that everybody has been spammed over. Useless. Acai is not a diet miracle. It is a wonderful, amazing-tasting, highly beneficial fruit that gives you energy and makes you feel good. But don’t be bilked by companies that want you to believe it’s the key to slimming. It isn’t.”

Buy acai berry. It’s a great-tasting fruit, and every purchase you make helps struggling native peoples earn a living honestly and honorably while preserving the Amazon rainforest. Be careful about getting the juice on your clothes or countertops, because the stain is hard to get out. Just be aware that the astonishing antioxidant power of acai berry is balanced by the fact that most acai berry products contain only about 5% acai berry juice.

For amazing health benefits, choose the right combination of foods, herbs, and nutritional supplements. Never rely on a single product, no matter how miraculous it may seem to be.

For nearly six thousand years, Ayurvedic medicine has utilized the benefits of amla, a round, yellow, bitter fruit also known as the Indian gooseberry. Amla is so bitter and so sour that it will literally make your hair stand on end, and that makes it wonderfully useful in natural medicine.

Because most toxins in the natural world are bitter, the human body is fine tuned to detect them. A bitter taste on the tongue usually makes us want to spit food out, and the taste receptors we also have in the stomach can detect bitterness, too. The sensation of bitterness triggers the release of extra stomach acid to make sure any offending food or toxin is thoroughly digested.

The process of completely digesting amla ensures that any foods eaten at about the same time are also completely digested. Potentially allergenic proteins are broken down, and the net effect is “cooling,” stopping the slow autoimmune reactions that generate inflammation all over the body.

The benefits of amla are not limited to digestion. As mentioned earlier, the pulp of berry can be used to straighten hair. More people are interested, however, in using amla to fight high cholesterol, osteoporosis, and cancer.

Amla against high cholesterol. Some of the most exciting research about amla is in the fight against metabolic syndrome, a combination of symptoms including moderately high cholesterol, moderately high blood pressure, and prediabetes. At least in the laboratory, fibers in amla help reverse the effects of excessive consumption of fructose.

Amla against osteoporosis. Scientists at the Ferrara University in Italy have found that amla extracts slow the activity of osteoclasts, the cells that break down bone.Since osteoporosis is a process of osteoclasts (bone busters) outpacing osteoblasts (bone builders), a slight shift in balance of activity stops destruction of joints by arthritis without interfering with the bone’s ability to make normal repairs.

Amla against cancer. Most of the research is testing amla as a way of stopping the growth of lung and liver cancer with a minimum of chemotherapy, rather than using amla instead of chemotherapy. But when doses of chemotherapy can be reduced, side effects are also reduced.

And amla also shows real promise to become a proven way to stop age-related cataracts, the leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 55.

Don’t rely on amla alone for any health application. But consider adding amla to your regular supplementation as another layer of protection against the health effects of aging.

Blueberries are packed with antioxidant power, but the benefits of blueberries are far more than just the plant chemicals you hear about so often. Blueberries fight disease on multiple levels, and are an underused tool of naturally good health.

Probably you have heard about cranberry juice as a tool for fighting bacterial infection of the urinary tract. Millions of cystitis sufferers are told to drink unsweetened cranberry juice to get rid of the E. coli and Proteus infestations that cause painful urination, abdominal cramps, and even bleeding.

Cranberry juice, as long as it isn’t doused with sugar, really works against common urinary tract infections. The problem is that it sometimes works a little too well. Aspirin-like compounds in cranberry juice trigger allergic reactions in the aspirin-sensitive, and cranberry extracts really aren’t safe in children under three. In fact, infants and toddlers have had to be hospitalized after treatment with cranberry juice extract.

Fortunately, blueberry juice and fresh blueberries also fight urinary tract infections, and they are safe for young children and for people who are sensitive to aspirin. One of the major benefits of blueberries is that they are tasty all by themselves, no sugar added because no sugar is needed, and they also fight the build of sticky biofilms left by infectious microorganisms in the urinary tract.

Blueberries are also beneficial for your brain. On a test tube level, blueberry antioxidants activate two brain-protective enzymes, catalase and superoxide dismutase. These are the enzymes that keep neurons from being “deactivated” after they are attacked by free radicals. Scientists at the Montreal Diabetes Research Center and the University of Montreal in Canada even believe that blueberry juice will be the source of treatments for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and age-related memory problems, and that eating blueberries confers similar benefits now.

There is no downside to eating blueberries, except that if you eat enough to make a black bear jealous, your digestive tract is going to slow down to handle all the pectin. Up to a quarter cup of delicious blueberries every day for kids and up to a whole cup of blueberries every day for adults offers all the benefits of blueberries in a delicious summer package–and you can enjoy all-fruit blueberry conserves and blueberry juice every day of the year.

Many studies have been done to find out the properties and benefits of an amazing superfruit – goji berry. It turned out to be perhaps the most nutritionally dense food on this planet. I eat them every day. They are essential in my smoothies and I add them to my water (they give it an amazing flavor).

Here’s some facts: Goji berries have more protein than whole wheat, about 500 times more vitamin C than oranges and more carotene B than carrots. And do you think this is enough? Those berries are considered to have high concentration of anti-carcinogenic and anti-aging compounds. These highly salubrious compounds provide you immunity against cancer, aging, heart disease, diabetes and problems of nervous system in addition to various other health related problems.

Gojies are perhaps the only fruit that contains vitamin E, vitamin B1 and B6. What is more they also come with about 18 amino acids (building blocks of proteins) and about twenty one trace minerals. And you were thinking these are only berries. Goji also possesses essential fatty acids. It is perhaps the richest source of carotenoids on this earth.

If you think that all this is too much and it is nothing sort of a miracle, why not try it for yourself. After all, what you would be losing? And if it is what I am trying to make you realize, just think how much you are going to benefit. If you visit Tibet or Mongolia you would find that for centuries, Goji berries have been prescribed by herbalists for a whole lot of problems. What is more every year a two week festival is held to honor these small red berries. And there are ample reasons for naming it the “happy berry” because local folklore says eating them when you start the day keeps you smiling all through the day.

The berries have the following properties: Yin tonic, improves vision, boost sperm production, benefits complexion, nourishes Liver and Kidney, replenishes vital essence (semen), powerful antioxidant, antimutagenic, and improves circulation, anti cancer properties.

One of the most well-known traditional properties of Goji berry fruit is its ability to improve vision. This has been documented for over fifteen centuries. Modern scientific studies have finally supplied some substantiation to this property. It turns out Goji fruit not only contains high amounts of b -carotene 8 mg/100g but this b -carotene is in a highly biologically active form which is readily utilized by the body.

Another well-known and long-documented traditional property of Goji fruit is its ability to “benefit complexion and maintain one’s beauty”; Goji is also considered to have anti-aging properties. To drug-oriented American scientists, this certainly sounds ridiculous. But various studies have shown Goji fruit to have numerous beneficial effects, including, antioxidant, immuno-potentiating, antimutagenic, hypoglycaemic, hypolipemic, hypotensive, etc., all of which contribute to the slowing down of the aging process or help us live longer.

The beautifying property of Goji fruit may have some scientific basis after all which may justify its use in skin-care cosmetics, as recent laboratory studies not only demonstrated its antioxidant effect but also its ability to increase dermal hydroxyproline level in mice, indicating increased collagen synthesis. All these effects are good for the skin.

Some medical researches prove that a sweet tonic decoction made from the Goji fruit has traditionally been used to lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels.

Goji acts mainly on the liver and kidneys. Goji fruit has traditionally been taken internally in the treatment of high blood pressure, diabetes, poor eyesight, vertigo, lumbago, impotence and menopausal complaints.

WHAT ACTUALLY IS GOJI BERRY?

The native of Tibet and Mongolia is technically known as Lycium Barbarum (Latin). It comes from the family of Solanaceae (flowering). Some of the other plants of the same family include potatoes, tobacco and tomatoes. Scientists have so far found out eight different varieties of lycium berries. Chinese believe that Chinese Wolfberry as a Goji berry that can cure male sexual dysfunction but scientists claim that Chinese Wolfberry is not actually a true Goji berry and is just related to Lycium Berbarum.

Goji berry is a small bright red fruit that is shaped almost like a raisin and grows on vines with green leaves. You would find that owing to its delicacy the berries are shaken from the vines during harvest and not picked. They are then carefully dried in the shade. When you eat it, you would find it very chewy and taste would be a cross between cranberry and raisin. Goji berry is also known as happy berry, gou qu zi and gouqi.

IMPORTANCE OF GOJI BERRIES

Gojies are rich sources of vitamins and other nutrients. They contain vitamin B1, B2, B6, C and E and also has about eighteen amino acids. They are considered perhaps the richest source of vitamin C; only Australian billygoat plum and the South American camu camu are better sources. As for minerals, they contain zinc, phosphorus, germanium, iron and calcium in different proportions. What is more they also contain antioxidants essential to human health.

Additionally, several other beneficial compounds are reported to have been discovered in the analysis by the Beijing Nutrition Research Institute:

Selenium and Germanium: These are well-known anti-cancer agents.

Beta Sitosterol: This anti-inflammatory agent has been found to lower cholesterol, and has been used to treat impotence and prostate enlargement.

Zeaxanthin and Lutine: Have been known to protect the eyes.

Betaine: Produces Choline in the liver, which helps detoxification processes there. It is also known to protect DNA, enhance memory, encourage muscle growth and protect against fatty liver disease.

Cyperone: Used in treatment of cervical cancer. It is known to benefit blood pressure, heart and menstruation problems.

Solavetivone: An anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent.

Physalin: A compound known to boost the immune system. Also found effective in treating leukemia, cancer and hepatitis B.

The goji berries can be used in the cases of general weakness, lack of energy, aching back and joints, tinnitus, dizziness, diabetes, blurred vision, cough, wet dreams, sexual inadequacies. The internal benefits are the following – Toxic side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The external benefits are: – Burns, ulcers, bedsores, frostbite, furuncles.

Spirulina is a blue green algae that grows in the alkaline waters of volcanic lakes. Today though, large commercial algae farms cultivate spirulina for export throughout the world.

Spirulina is anywhere from 62-71 percent essential amino acids. It also contains beta carotene (ten times more concentrated than that of carrots), along with other carotenoids.

It also contains chlorophyll, GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid), and vitamin B12. It is actually the richest source of vitamin B12. B12 is important for healthy tissues, energy, and nerves…especially for strict vegetarians.

The phytonutrient in spirulina that gives it the striking blue green color is phycocyanin. In animal studies, it is showing great promise in the stimulation of the production of stem cells in bone marrow. These stem cells will mature into red blood cells and white blood cells.

Spirulina is valuable in helping to stabilize blood sugar. It is also showing promise in reducing cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

A study reported in Nutrition and Cancer that was conducted among tobacco chewers in India reported a complete regression of pre-cancerous mouth lesions in 45 per cent of subjects who were given extracts of spirulina for 12 months. This was the first human study using spirulina as a cancer therapy.

The United Nations World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva has confirmed: “Spirulina represents an interesting food for multiple reasons, and it is able to be administered to children without any risk. We at WHO consider it a very suitable food.”

According to a scientific review from Latin America, spirulina has a vast array of beneficial properties. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of allergies, anemia, cancer, high cholesterol, elevated blood sugar, viral infections, inflammatory conditions, liver damage, immuno -deficiency, cardiovascular diseases, and other conditions.

Mark Stengler in his book, “A Natural Physician’s Healing Therapies”, wrote: “More than 100 published scientific references help support the case for the health benefits of spirulina. Some studies demonstrate that spirulina seems to possess anticancer effects and antiviral properties. Also, animal studies show that it is a powerful tonic for the immune system.”

Donald R. Yance Jr. in his book, “Herbal Medicine Healing Cancer” wrote: “Spirulina’s pure protein, which arrives within the context of massive amounts of beta-carotene, chlorophyll, fatty-acid -gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), and other nutrients, is especially helpful to those who are overweight, diabetic, hypoglycemic, or suffering from cancer, arthritis, or other degenerative diseases. “

An advocate of natural medicine and a Consultant Homeopath at the Global Foundation for Integrative Medicine in Santa Fe New Mexico, United States, Prof. Osmond Ifeanyi Onyeka, told The Guardian that spirulina contains the most remarkable concentration of nutrients known in any food, plant, grain or herb.

“Spirulina has the highest protein food which is over 60 per cent of all the digestible vegetable protein. Most notably, spirulina is 65 to 71 per cent complete protein, with all essential amino acids in perfect balance. In comparison, beef is only 22 per cent protein. It also has the highest concentration of beta carotene, vitamin B-12, iron and trace minerals and the rare essential fatty acid GLA. These surely make Spirulina an incredible whole food alternative to the isolated vitamin and minerals,” Onyeka said.

“Spirulina is rich in natural carotenoid antioxidants that promote cellular health and lessen the risk of cancer. It also has cleansing chlorophyll which helps detoxify bodies that are always prone to present pollution,” Onyeka said.

He further explained: “Scientifically explained the most important dictate of our body’s metabolism is to support our immune system. When our immune system is stressed or is suffering, it draws on our body’s metabolic energy. People with immune system imbalance often feel chronic fatigue and low energy.

“Both scientific research and the experience of thousands of consumers indicate that Spirulina is an immune regulating food. Small amounts can help balance and stabilise the immune system, freeing up more of our metabolic energy for vitality, healing and assimilation of nutrients. It enhances the body’s cellular communication process and also has the ability to read and repair DNA, like a kind of cellular tune up. This is why individuals taking Spirulina often report they have more energy levels.”

A senior lecturer at the Department of Parasitology and Entomology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) Awka, Anambra State, Dr. Abiodun Nwora Ozumba, told The Guardian: “It is unfortunate that the country is sitting on a goldmine and is not doing anything about it. The best spirulina in the whole world grows at our backyard on Lake Chad. It is sold for almost nothing on the streets of Maiduguri. Westerners come here, buy it for little or nothing, go back, develop it into supplements, and ship it back to us to buy.

“Spirulina is 20 times more productive as a protein source than any other food. It could be grown with unused land and water. It was possible to cultivate a pure culture on a large scale in many places around the world. Scientists discovered spirulina was a safe food, had been consumed for hundreds of years by traditional peoples, and showed promising nutritional, and even therapeutic, health benefits.

“If this blue-green algae were cultivated and consumed by millions of people, it would have tremendous benefits, especially for the world’s children and our planet’s future. Spirulina seemed to be the solution we needed. However, it was all theory, it had not been done yet.”

Most cultivated spirulina is produced in open-channel raceway ponds, with paddle-wheels used to agitate the water. The largest commercial producers of spirulina are located in the United States, Thailand, India, Taiwan, China, Pakistan and Myanmar (the Burma).

Phytochemical analysis indicates that spirulina contains an unusually high amount of protein, between 55 per cent and 77 per cent by dry weight, depending upon the source. It is a complete protein, containing all essential amino acids, though with reduced amounts of methionine, cysteine, and lysine when compared to the proteins of meat, eggs, and milk. It is, however, superior to typical plant protein, such as that from legumes.

Spirulina is rich in GLA, and also provides alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), linoleic acid (LA), stearidonic acid (SDA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and arachidonic acid (AA).

Spirulina contains vitamin B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (nicotinamide), B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (folic acid), vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin D, and vitamin E.

Previous studies indicate that spirulina is a rich source of potassium, and also contains calcium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, sodium, and zinc.

Spirulina extract has been shown to inhibit HIV replication in human T-cells, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), and Langerhans cells.

Other studies indicate that spirulina helps prevent heart damage caused by chemotherapy using Doxorubicin, without interfering with its anti-tumor activity. Spirulina reduces the severity of strokes and improves recovery of movement after a stroke; reverses age-related declines in memory and learning; and prevents and treats hay fever.

Spirulina is effective for the clinical improvement of melanosis and keratosis due to chronic arsenic poisoning; improves weight-gain and corrects anemia in both HIV-infected and HIV-negative undernourished children; and protects against hay fever.

The United Nations World Food Conference in 1974 lauded Spirulina as the ‘best food for the future’. Recognising the inherent potential of Spirulina in the sustainable development agenda, several Member States of the United Nations came together to form an intergovernmental organisation by the name of the Intergovernmental Institution for the Use of Micro-algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition (IMSAM). IIMSAM aspires to build a consensus to make Spirulina a key driver to eradicate malnutrition, achieve food security and bridge the health divide throughout the world.

This a great article about important superfoods that we all have to add to our diet. If somebody in your close family have ever had cancer, you should definitely be eating those foods to reduce your chance of having to fight this horrible disease.

The short answer to this question is—yes. They really do. While studies are ongoing, and in many cases experts still don’t know exactly how these superfoods work, there’s strong evidence that certain fruits and vegetables rich in plant-based nutrients can both prevent tumors from starting and halt their growth. Here, the top foods to work into the family diet if you’d like to cut cancer risk or help those with cancer recover. And who wouldn’t?

Blueberries, açai berries, raspberries, and cranberries

The rich, dark colors of blueberries, Brazilian açai berries, raspberries and cranberries come from phytochemicals that protect against numerous types of cancer. Most recently, researchers at the University of Florida found that the active ingredient in açai berries destroyed cancer cells when tested in cell cultures. And blueberries and muscadine grapes contain compounds that recent research shows cause cancer cells in the liver to self-destruct. In studies particularly important to women, cranberries have recently been discovered to be an important weapon in the fight against deadly ovarian cancer. Studies reported at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society found that ovarian cancer cells that were becoming resistant to platinum chemotherapy—the standard of care for ovarian cancer—became six times more sensitive when exposed to a compound in cranberries.

The anti-cancer properties of all these berries are so strong that researchers have developing concentrated supplements and other products such as purees and concentrates.

Green tea

One of the first plant-based chemicals to be studied for its anti-cancer properties, catechins-the chemicals in green tea-have been known for some time to prevent and reduce recurrence of breast and other cancers. With this particular chemical, experts even know why: a chemical known as EGCG inhibits breast tumor growth, a University of Mississippi study shows. Just two cups a day is enough to do the trick.

Garlic

Numerous studies over the years (more than 30 different studies to date) have documented the anti-cancer properties of garlic. The strongest evidence so far has focused on digestive cancers, but garlic appears to protect against all types of cancer, including breast and prostate. According to the National Cancer Institute, an analysis of seven different large-scale population studies showed that the more raw and cooked garlic a person consumed, the lower the risk of stomach and colorectal cancer; one study found that middle-aged women who regularly consumed garlic had a 50 percent lower risk of developing colon cancer. Scientists have isolated two active ingredients in garlic, allicin and allyl sulfur, and demonstrated that they prevent and fight cancer in both animals and humans; you can take garlic in supplement form but the capsules must be enteric-coated to protect these active ingredients. Add crushed, fresh garlic to your meals whenever possible; some experts also recommend waiting 15 minutes between peeling and chopping the garlic to get the full effects of the active compounds.

Broccoli and cabbage

British researchers made headlines last year with a study that showed that men with early signs of developing prostate cancer prevented tumor growth by eating broccoli four times a week. Other studies have shown anti-cancer benefits from eating cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and other cruciferous vegetables.

Tomatoes

Harvard researcher Edward Giovannucci reviewed 72 different studies published by the National Cancer Institute, and concluded that lycopene, the active chemical in tomatoes, lowered the risk of many different cancers, particularly prostate, breast, lung and colon cancer. Subsequently, the FDA conducted a review of its own and disagreed, refusing food companies’ request to label tomato products with an anti-cancer health promotion message. However, many experts believe the FDA’s process was flawed and that tomatoes will be vindicated by further studies. Interesting news: cooking tomatoes seems to enhance
the effects of lycopene, qualifying tomato-based sauce as a nutritional powerhouse.

Resveratrol

The hype about red wine centers on an antioxidant called resveratrol that’s present in grapes and grape juice, but is most concentrated in red wine. Numerous studies show that resveratrol possesses powerful anti-cancer activity. Teams at several universities and cancer centers are studying resveratrol’s effects against specific types of cancer. Most recently, a University of Nebraska study published in Cancer Prevention Research demonstrated that resveratrol suppresses the abnormal cell growth that leads to most types of breast cancer. Breast cancer is fueled by estrogen, and resveratrol acts to block the action of the estrogen, preventing it from feeding tumor growth. Previously, research conducted at the University of Alabama at Birmingham showed that mice fed a diet enriched with resveratrol had an 87 percent reduction in their risk of developing prostate tumors of the most dangerous kind.

The problem, however, is that higher alcohol intake has been linked to cancer as well, particularly breast and esophageal cancer. The solution? One glass of red wine a day, unless you’re at risk for or have one of these types of cancer, in which case a resveratrol supplement is a better idea.

Soy

The active ingredient in soy is genistein, which is a phytoestrogen that protects against hormone-dependent cancers. It’s also a powerful inhibitor of several proteins that are implicated in the uncontrolled growth of cancer cells. To get the anti-cancer benefits of soy, you need to consume about 50 grams per day of the whole food, such as raw fresh soybeans, known as edamame, dry roasted soybeans, or tofu. The research to date shows that supplements containing isoflavones don’t work with the same action as soybeans themselves and in fact can be bad for you rather than good.

Watercress and spinach

Watercress isn’t exactly a major part of the American diet. But maybe it should be, according to researchers in Ireland, who released studies in the past two years showing that eating watercress everyday can prevent the DNA damage that leads to cancer. Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition—but conducted in Ulster, where people are more comfortable eating watercress—found that antioxidants in the nutrient-rich greens prevented free radicals from damaging healthy cells. Spinach, which we’re all more familiar with, is also a cancer fighter; research conducted by the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Texas showed spinach to protect against bladder cancer. The chemical that gives spinach its dark green color, chlorophyllin, proved to reduce the risk of liver cancer in research by the National Academy of Sciences. Who cares about muscles? Here’s a much more important reason to eat your greens.

Would you like to increase your energy and inner strength with a few drops a day? Marine Phytoplankton is a supercharged, ocean-based micro algae that is raw, live, and thus enzyme active. It contains every known mineral and all amino acids that our bodies need for optimum health. Phytoplankton is the original source of Omega 3’s and is more powerful than any fish/flax oil you can find. Major scientist and researcher Jack Crusoe was the first to crack this code when he said that the future of the nutrition was in the ocean. Marine Phytoplankton is in fact at the very bottom of the entire worlds foodchain.

Some benefits noticed by those using this Marine Phytoplankton as a daily superfood supplement are enhanced brain function, improved immune function, antiviral/antifungal/antibacterial effects, improved cellular repair, radiation protection, detoxification support, anti-inflammatory support, antioxidant support, improved circulation, improved heart function, allergy/asthma relief, suppression of symptoms stemming from degenerative disease, and a residual grounding energy overall.

This unique super-nutrient from the ocean provides the body with instant usable energy. The Omega 3 fatty acids found in hemp, flax, and chia seeds are Alpha-linolenic acid. These types of Essential Fatty Acids need to be converted in our bodies via a multi-step process before we can utilize and benefit from them. With marine phytoplankton, the Omega 3 fatty acids are immediately usable in the body. All those benefits and no digestive work. The nutrition is delivered right into our blood stream in seconds.

If you were to put a droppperful of Elements for Life Marine Phytoplankton in a glass of water, you would realize just how much chlorophyll is in this superfood. The benefits of chlorophyll are numerous. For starters, chlorophyll detoxifies the blood, liver and digestive tract, it increases oxygen intake, and fuels muscles for higher performance, endurance, and recovery.

A team of doctors, microbiologists, and botanists in Europe narrowed down all species of marine phytoplankton supremely beneficial to human health down to just one. This micro-algae is now grown in a controlled ocean-like environment completely pure and containing no contaminants or environmental pollutants. The Elements for Life Marine Phytoplankton product is a dropper bottle full of living-state marine phytoplankton in a purified ocean water concentrate.

Because marine phytoplankton is a relatively new to market superfood, there are only a few other companies making it right now. I decided to do a comparison test with the two others I found. I placed a dropperful of each in a small glass of water to see the difference in pigmentation and concentration. The other two didn’t come close. One was actually completely clear so it caused no change in water color; the other was a pink/orangish color so the water looked pinkish in color. The taste test didn’t impress me either. I thought one tasted like alcohol and the other like fruit juice. They didn’t come close to giving me the jolt of energy I feel when I take a dropperful of Elements for Life Marine Phytoplankton.

Rich in nutrition, this superfood can almost be called a “medicine,” representing the future of healing. Currently, is the only living superfood product available to the market that contains all known minerals, antioxidants, EFAs, and protein. You only need a few drops to a dropperful once a day to feel a difference. Just try a drop and see if you can feel the difference. One bottle should last one and a half months or more. Because some don’t like the strong, salty taste, you can put it in water, a smoothie, orange juice or fruit juice, or coconut water. How easy is that for super-nutrition?

We recommend this phytoplankton: Elements For Life Phytoplankton

Everyone should be eating them!

1. Goji Berries

Goji berries, Hollywood’s hottest new food, are one of the most nutritionally dense foods on earth and house a staggering concentration of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, phytochemicals and essential fatty acids. With such an awesome constitution it is not surprising they are reputed anti-aging marvels. Originating in Tibet and greatly favored in traditional medicine these dried berries have many noted health benefits including boosting immunity, lowering cholesterol, enhancing vision, fighting cancer cells, relieving depression and aiding weight loss.

Goji berries contain 500 times more vitamin C than oranges by weight and more beta-carotene than carrots making them a superb source of vitamin A. Together with vitamin E and essential fatty acids, these berries are ideal for any anti-aging and beauty regime. They also contain polysaccharides, one of which has been found to stimulate the secretion of the rejuvenating human growth hormone by the pituitary gland, as well as B vitamins, 21 minerals and 18 amino acids.

The most well documented case of longevity is that of Li Qing Yuen, who lived to the age of 252. Born in 1678, he is said to have married 14 times with 11 generations of posterity before his death in 1930. Li Qing Yuen reportedly consumed goji berries daily.

A study cited in Dr. Mindell’s book “Goji: The Himalayan Health Secret”, observed that 67 percent of elderly people that were given a daily dose of the berries for 3 weeks experienced dramatic immune system enhancement and a significant improvement in spirit and optimism.

2. Aloe Vera

Forget botox, Aloe vera increases collagen production 100% naturally for a youthful, wrinkle-free complexion and plump, beautiful skin. The ultimate botox alternative!

The inner gel of the aloe vera leaf contains around 200 active compounds with over 75 nutrients. These include 20 minerals, 18 amino acids and 12 vitamins (even vitamin B12, one of the very few plant sources of this vitamin). Aloe vera also has anti-microbial properties fighting fungi and bacteria and houses anti-inflammatory plant steroids and enzymes. Aloe vera is known to aid digestion and elimination, boost the immune system, and be highly effective at healing, moisturizing and rejuvinating the skin, naturally stimulating the production of collagen.

Aloe vera is best eaten fresh when possible (you can order large aloe vera leaves which last a few weeks refrigerated). Scrape out the inside gel, avoiding the outside of the leaf which is a strong laxative, and blend with fruit for the ultimate beautifying smoothie. Aloe vera has a mild flavor though a slight bitter edge, hence is best combined with fruit.

3. Avocados

Avocados are smoothing and softening for the skin and easily absorbed; compared with almond, corn, olive, and soybean oils, avocado oil has the highest skin penetration rate.

Avocado also contains vitamin E (excellent for the skin), antioxidant carotenoids and the master antioxidant glutathione that is exceptionally powerful and has anti-carcinogenic potential. High levels of glutathione are found in the liver where the elimination of toxic materials takes place.

Glutathione is effective against pollutants such as cigarette smoke and exhaust fumes as well as ultra-violet radiation. Research is currently exploring the potential benefits of glutathione for numerous conditions including cancer, heart disease, memory loss, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, eczema, liver disorders, heavy metal poisoning and AIDS.

4. Chlorella

The nucleic acids RNA and DNA in Chlorella (one of the highest known sources of such) direct cellular growth and repair and enable our bodies to utilize nutrients more effectively, eliminate toxins and avoid disease. The production of nucleic acids in the body declines progressively as we age, which is no doubt why their intake is recommended. Paul Pitchford in “Healing With Whole Foods” writes that insufficient nucleic acid causes premature aging as well as weakened immunity, Research at the Medical College of Kanazawa in Japan found that mice that were fed chlorella had a 30 percent increase in life span. Replenishing RNA and DNA can be key to overall health, immunity and longevity.

In addition to nucleic acids, chlorella is jam-packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes and amino acids, making it an incredibly rejuvenating and health-promoting superfood. Spirulina is a virtuous equivalent.

5. Bee pollen

When it comes to young and beautiful skin, bee pollen has outstanding gifts. Swedish dermatologist Dr. Lars-Erik Essen uses bee pollen to successfully treat acne and other skin conditions and observes its beautifying and anti-aging effects. He reports that bee pollen seems to prevent premature aging of the cells and stimulates growth of new skin tissue. It offers effective protection against dehydration and injects new life into dry cells. It smoothes away wrinkles and stimulates a life-giving blood supply to all skin cells. He believes its skin rejuvenation properties are due to its high concentration of nucleic acids RNA and DNA, as well as its natural antibiotic action. Bee pollen has a host of other health-promoting benefits that include fighting infections, lowering cholesterol, strengthening the blood, Boosting the immune system, increasing physical strength and stamina, aiding longevity and enhancing libido! It has been called a ‘prefect food’ because it is so nutritionally complete.

6. Coconut oil

Coconut oil speeds up your metabolism and can actually help you loose weight. It is also incredibly beautifying and moisturizing for the skin and has antioxidant properties which protect against free-radical damage, keeping the skin youthful and healthy. Taken internally or externally coconut oil is a great ally for any beauty skin care regime. It also contains lauric acid, an anti-microbial fatty acid that kills bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Pollen is the male seed of flowers. It is required for the fertilization of the plant. The tiny particles consist of 50/1,000-millimeter corpuscles, formed at the free end of the stamen in the heart of the blossom. Every variety of flower in the universe puts forth a dusting of pollen. Many orchard fruits and agricultural food crops do, too.

Bee pollen is the food of the young bee and it is approximately 40% protein. It is considered one of nature’s most completely nourishing foods. It contains nearly all nutrients required by humans. About half of its protein is in the form of free amino acids that are ready to be sued directly by the body. Such highly assimilable protein can contribute significantly to one’s protein needs.

Bee pollen is an alkaline food considered by nutritionists to be the most complete food found in nature. Bee pollen contains all essential amino acids. Its high levels of protein and amino acids make it a great strength builder and brain food. Some of the amino acids present include: cystine, lysine, histidine, arginine, aspartic acid, threonine, glutamine, proline, glycine, alanine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, and tryptophan.

Some of the minerals included in bee pollen include: barium, boron, calcium, copper, iodine, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sodium, and zinc. Bee pollen contains vitamins A, B, C, and E. It is extraordinarily rich in most of the B vitamins, including folic acid (folate).

Bee pollen contains over 5,000 enzymes. The phytonutrients (such as co-enzymes, bioflavonoids, phytosterols, and carotenoids) found in bee pollen also number in the thousands. Bee pollen is 15% natural lecithin.

Some of the Benefits of Bee Pollen Consumption Include:

- Increases energy and stamina.
- Increase muscle growth and definition.
- Builds immune system.
- Has antioxidant activity.
- Enhances sexuality.
- Smoothes wrinkles.

One of the most important things for the human body is its balance. You can think of the human body as a well designed machine that requires balance in order to stay fine tuned.

As long as the human body is kept in natural balance, it can fight against various infections and disorders such as cancer. Hence, the diet that you pursue can be very important in keeping you fit and healthy.
Immune system is perhaps the most important system in your body.

It is the main system which helps to defend against viruses and bacteria that may invade your body which can lead to serious diseases. In fact, your immune system can be the most important tool for fighting against cancer. If your immune system malfunctions, then you will have severe problems related to cancer, as your body won’t be able to distinguish between healthy cells. Thus, your immune system will attack healthy cells instead and this can lead to even more serious disorders than cancer.

In order to keep your body functioning in a healthy state, it is very important for your immune system to be kept in balance. You can easily achieve this by eating foods that help to boost your immune system. This way, your body can fight off infections as well as all kinds of various disorders. In order to boost your immune system, you will have to support it with various super foods such as blue green algae.

As you know, blue green algae are an ocean based food supply and they contain chlorophyll which is a very important substance for your body. In parallel, human body has also evolved from the deep oceans and thus by consuming blue green algae based super foods (such as chlorella) will allow your body to get the revitalizing energy it needs from the nutrition of the oceans.
Hence, eating blue green algae based foods help your body to revert to its fundamental form by receiving ocean based nutrition.

Of course, eating blue green algae foods should not be thought of as medicine to be taken in need; but rather it should be thought of as a continuous source of food. By consuming blue green algae based super foods regularly, you can help to boost your immune system and you will also be able to give your body the nutrients that it needs.

For proper functioning of your body, it is essential for your body to have necessary trace minerals and antioxidants. This way the necessary enzymes can be produced by your body and your body’s chemical processes can be kept in tip top shape. In addition, blue green algae foods allow the body to retain its natural balance, so that the effects of aging can be combated in a better way.

It is important to remember that aging is largely associated with imbalance in the natural mechanisms of the body. Thus, by eating blue green algae foods, you can keep your body healthy, fit and energetic.

Introduction to Sugars

Sugar seems to be related to all things sweet in life. We call our loved ones “sweetheart,” “sugar plum,” “honey,” and “sweety pie.” Life without any sweet flavors would be challenging at best and extremely disappointing at worst. Sugar is the great reward of life and we know that people and animals perform consistently better when rewarded.

Because the term is used so loosely, sugar has become an ambiguous word. When one states the word “sugar” it could mean one of a dozen things such as high fructose corn syrup, refined cane sugar, white sugar, brown sugar, maple sugar, beet sugar, fruit juice, dried fruit, etc.

For purposes of this article, sugar is defined as a natural hydrocarbon compound (such as honey, agave, fruits, dried fruits, etc.) and refined sugar is an unnatural hydrocarbon product (such as high fructose corn syrup, brown sugar, white sugar, etc.) made through human engineering, plant breeding, and heat processing.

To be specific, natural sugar compounds consist of hydrogen and carbon molecules linked together in short, medium, or long chains.

Short chain sugars are what we call glucose, fructose, sucrose, fucose, xylose, and galactose. These are simple sugars that are easy to break down and provide quick energy. They are sweet to the taste. Some of these sugars (namely glucose, fructose, and sucrose) can be problematic if overeaten (eating too many dates or bananas) or when miscombined with other foods. Sometimes, we may have such serious candida or cancer problems that we may not want to consume any glucose, fructose, and sucrose sugars at all for at least 3 months (no glucose, no fructose, no sucrose). Candida yeast cells and cancer cells feed on glucose, fructose, and especially sucrose sugars. These are their favorite food.

Medium and long chain sugars are often called “polysaccharides” or “glyconutrients.” Once the sugar chain becomes medium to long in length, the sugar begins to become bitter in flavor. In simple terms, bitter polysaccharides or glyconutrients are one of the healthiest substances we can ingest especially when still found in their natural state in whole organic raw foods, superfoods, and herbs.

Polysaccharides (glyconutrients) are:
•	Soothing
•	Produce healthy youthful skin cells,
•	Help keep us slim and trim
•	Help detoxify our bodies
•	Improve and educate our immune system
•	Increase our brain power

Polysaccharide molecules of beta glucans (found in the medicinal mushrooms such as Agaricus blazei, Reishi, Cordyceps, Maitake, etc.) have repeatedly been proven to enhance the body’s production of B-cells, T-cells, and NK cell activity – all of these support a healthy immune response. Certain foods, namely yacon root syrup, have just the perfect length of sugars and provide us with the sweet taste of a short chain sugar, but the health-enhancing properties of medium and long-chain polysaccharides.

Polysaccharides in aloe vera rejuvenate epithelial cells (skin cells) better than any other food known. Goji berries, due to their high polysaccharide content are not only great for the immune system, they are also great for long-term energy and endurance because polysaccharides are broken down more slowly than simple sugars like glucose.

How The Best Food Ever Keeps Getting Better

Now let’s complexify things slightly. It was discovered in the 1980s by Arizona mineral scientist David Hudson that polysaccharides contain more than just hydrogen and carbon. Hudson discovered that certain elements (high energy particles from the atmosphere or geosphere that he called “Ormus”) can be contained within polysaccharides. The “Ormus” elements appear to be at the heart of the “intelligent” behavior of many of the well-researched polysaccharides such beta glucans, mannose, and the others listed below. Under the correct soil and growing conditions, the polysaccharide fraction of superfoods like aloe vera, Goji berries, garlic, etc. can be increased and improved. I mention this, because this is an area of research that I am personally involved in and believe will deliver the next breakthroughs in immune system support and longevity as well as more and more of “the best food ever.”

Summary: Is Sugar Good For Us?

So back to the question…Is sugar good for us?

Answer: A qualified YES. As long as we cleanse our body of freeloaders (organisms that like to hang out for a free lunch) by intelligently using herbs (like the EJUVA systems), activated liquid zeolites, MSM (sulfur), superfoods, as well as by maintaining a mineral-rich raw and living foods-based diet, healthy relationships, our common sense (to stay balanced), avoid consuming both unnatural sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup and refined cane or beet sugar) and avoid over-consuming short-chain natural sugars such glucose, fructose, and sucrose we should have few problems with sugar. That means we must avoid the temptations to: have any refined sugar, have too many fresh or dried fruits at one sitting, use too much sweetener at one time with our beverages, desserts, and treats, etc.

If due to a long-standing health challenge (candida, cancer, poor immunity, etc.) we have to move towards a “low sugar” diet, I recommend that you follow the advice given on this subject in Dr. Gabriel Cousens book The Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine and my book The Sunfood Diet Success System.

The Eight Essential Sugars

The question appears to be answered. Sugar is an important part of a balanced diet when used appropriately. Recent research over the last 25 years has actually confirmed that not only are sugars good for us, some are essential (just as some amino acids and fatty acids are essential in our diet).

Here are a list of eight essential sugars to human health, their properties, and what foods contain them:

Mannose (polysaccharide)
Properties: Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral. Reduces inflammation.
Food and Herb Sources of Mannose: Aloe vera, ‘>kelp, shiitake mushroom, fenugreek, carob gum, guar gum, black currants, red currants, gooseberries, green beans, cayenne pepper, cabbage, broccoli, eggplant, tomatoes, turnip, cranberries.

Fucose (simple sugar)
Properties: Anti-viral. Supports long-term memory. Guards against lung diseases. Fights allergies. The abnormal metabolism of this saccharide is associated with cystic fibrosis, diabetes, cancer, and herpes – more fucose helps to alleviate these conditions.
Food and Herb Sources of Fucose: kelp, Wakame seaweed, mushrooms, seeds.

Galactose
Properties: Improves the speedy healing of injuries. Improves memory. Improves the absorption of good calcium.
Food and Herb Sources of Galactose: Most fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, and raw dairy products. Some the fruits, vegetables and herbs that contain galactose include: apples, apricots, bananas, blackberries, cherries, cranberries, currants, dates, grapes, kiwi, mangos, oranges, nectarines, peaches, pears, pineapples, plums, prunes, raspberries, rhubarb, strawberries, passionfruit, echinacea, boswellia, fenugreek, chestnuts, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, avocado, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, potatoes, eggplant, tomatoes, leeks, asparagus, lettuce, green beans, mushrooms (not button mushrooms), beets, onions, parsnips, green peas, pumpkins, spinach.

Glucose (simple sugar)
Properties: Fast energy source. Too much or too little can be problematic. Glucose metabolic disturbances are associated with depression, manic behavior, anorexia, and bulimia.
Food and Herb Sources of Glucose: Nearly all fruits, vegetables, and bee products (bee pollen, honey). Nearly all naturally sweet substances, such as agave, honey, etc.

N-Acetylgalactosamine (polysaccharide)
Properties: Inhibits the spread of tumors. Heart disease causes a low-level of this saccharide.
Food and Herb Sources of N-Acetylgalactosamine: Ocean’s Alive Marine Phytoplankton, Dumontiaceae (red algae).

N-Acetylglucosamine (polysaccharide)
Properties: Immune system modulator. Anti-viral. Anti-inflammatory. Repairs cartilage. Repairs the mucosal-lining that is damaged by Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and interstitial cystitis. Enhances learning.
Food and Herb Sources of N-Acetylglucosamine: Shiitake mushroom, glucosamine sulfate

N-Acetylneurominic Acid (polysaccharide)
Properties: Anti-bacterial, anti-viral. Enhances learning and brain development. Abundantly found in breast milk.
Food and Herb Sources of N-Acetylneurominic Acid: Lion’s mane mushroom, Ocean’s Alive Marine Phytoplankton, raw dairy products

Xylose (simple sugar)
Properties: Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal. Helps prevent cancer of the digestive system.
Food and Herb Sources of Xylose: Kelp, berries (blackberries, loganberries, raspberries), aloe vera, okra, birch sap, seeds, some common vegetables. Includes: guava, pears, echinacea, boswellia, psyllium, broccoli, spinach, eggplant, peas, green beans, okra, cabbage, and corn.

There are more sugars than just these eight (just like there are more amino acids than the 8 or 9 essential amino acids). The list of food and herb sources of essential sugars (listed above) is by no means complete. Generally, if you eat superfoods (goji berries, bee pollen, marine phytoplankton, aloe vera, etc.), medicinal mushrooms (reishi, cordyceps, maitake, Lion’s mane, etc.), and seaweeds (especially kelp powder, nori, dulse, and sea lettuce) you will get all the essential sugars into your diet naturally.

Raw Foods, Superfoods, and Herbs That Contain Healing Polysaccharides

Here are my comments on Raw Foods, Superfoods, and Herbs that contain short, medium, and long chain sugars. Please review and determine which of these sugars you would like to include in your diet.

•	Yacon root syrup – This incredible superfood contains polysaccharides that help to nourish friendly bacteria and help to alleviate blood sugar disorders.
•	Goji berries – The goji berry contains polysaccharides that give the goji berry many unique medicinal immune system improving qualities.
•	Agave nectar – A great source of glucose, fructose, and inulin (a medium chain sugar). Darker varieties are less glycemic.
•	Noni – One of the best polysaccharide containing foods in the world. Noni is the only fruit tree in the world that grow directly out of a lava field with no soil.
•	Aloe vera – Everyone knows that what aloe does for your skin and digestive system is unmatched by any other food. What is the secret ingredient in aloe? Mannose, an essential sugar!
•	Bee pollen – Bee pollen is an excellent source of healthy polysaccharides.
•	Fruits – In general, berries are the best class of fruits as they contain glucose and more medicinal medium and long-chain polysaccharides than most other fruit types.
•	Medicinal mushrooms – Try different types of medicinal mushrooms. Start with Reishi. Experiment and discover which ones work best in your body. I personally enjoy Reishi, Lion’ s Mane.

1) Pau d’Arco
Pau D’Arco (Avellanedae or Tabebuia Impetiginosa) is the inner bark of a majestic flowering Amazonian tree. The pau d’arco tree grows up to 30 meters in height and the base of the tree can measure up to 3 meters in diameter.

Indigenous people noticed that the pau d’arco tree does not rot, even when it is dead. Pau d’arco bark contains intrinsic chemical factors that fight fungus and mold, even in some of the wettest environments on Earth. This was likely how and why indigenous people started using the bark medicinally to fight fungal conditions.

Pau d’Arco is a wonderful herb with many documented properties and may help provide the following benefits:
• Improves toxic-blood related conditions, such as acne, hepatitis, environmentally produced allergies and asthma, and poisons attacking the liver.
• Stimulates the immune system to such a positive degree that it has been traditionally used as a primary treatment for viruses, such as flu, herpes or hepatitis.
• Eliminates Candida, and Candida-type problems from the body as a systemic anti-fungal, by stimulating the body’s own Candida scavengers.
• Inhibits free-radical induced cell-mutation, especially those within the blood or skin. May also decrease in the spreading of mutated cells and the formation of new malignant growths.
• Balances blood sugar levels, and reduce the amount of insulin needed by diabetics.

Pau d’Arco teas make a fantastic base to cacao drinks. Simply add cacao beans or nibs and blend. Also adding some form of sweetener (such as raw yacon root syrup, agave cactus nectar, stevia, honey, fruit, etc.) makes a wonderful tasting beverage; yet take note that the more sweetener that is used, the less effective is the pau d’arco.

Pau d’Arco tea possesses a wonderful flavor and has a naturally sweet taste, yet contains no sugar. Pau d’Arco is a great herbal base for all teas. Experiment with mixing it with other herbs.
Dosage: 10 grams makes 1-2 liters of tea. One may add 3.5 grams of the herb cat’s claw to the pau d’arco tea to make a traditional Shipibo Peruvian tea.

NOTE: As with many herbs, an excessive amount of Pau d’Arco tea, may cause cramping, nausea, or intestinal upset. However, there have been no reports in the scientific literature of any danger of ingesting Pau d’Arco tea. Pau d’Arco tea has been in human use for thousands of years.

Pau d’Arco tea recipe:
Pau D’Arco (10 grams)
Cat’s Claw (3.5 grams)
Goji Berries (20 grams)
Chancapiedra (3 grams)
1 raw vanilla bean
(This makes 2 liters of healing tea and is extraordinary when chilled)

2) Vanilla Bean

From the exquisite blooms of the vanilla orchid come the pods that yield one of the world’s greatest flavors. Vanilla beans (pods) are the cured dried fruit of the only fruit-bearing orchid. Although there are about 150 species of vanilla orchids, only a few are used commercially.

Vanilla is one of the oldest and most expensive spices as well as one of the most familiar that is best known for its flavor enhancing qualities as well as its aromatic uses.

Among the purported health benefits of vanilla by ancient peoples was that it could act as an aphrodisiac. In the 1700’s it was recommended by physicians to be drunk as an infusion or tincture to increase male potency.

Studies have shown that vanilla can help people fall asleep faster and enter into deep REM sleep or dream state.

When purchasing vanilla, look for beans that are hand-cultivated and hand-picked without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, and cured only in the sun. Also, many vanilla beans are blanched in hot water to start the curing process, this is other-than-the-best-ever. Stay away from vanilla extracts, especially artificial vanilla extracts, for when vanilla is processed into this form, it losses it’s health-enhancing herbal properties. Nothing compares to using whole, raw vanilla beans when you want real vanilla flavor!

Suggested use: Use in all your favorite raw creations, including chocolate drinks, smoothies and desserts. If you have a Vita Mix or other powerful blender, you can snip (with kitchen scissors) small pieces of the whole bean right into your blended creations (the beans, flavor and nutrition go further this way). You can also add half of a vanilla bean into any tea recipe along with the other herbs for a delicious and smooth taste. Another way to use vanilla is to split the bean open lengthwise, scrape out the thousands of tiny black seeds and add them to your cuisine.

3) Chanca Piedra

Chancapiedra (Phyllanthus niruri) is one of the most important superherbs discovered in the entire history of herbalism due to its effect on directly fighting calcium-forming organisms called nanobacteria. Nanobacteria have been linked to inflammation and the production of “bad calcium” in the human body. Nearly every disease condition known to humans, mammals, reptiles, and birds involves calcification. Calcification is the overproduction of “bad calcium” due to the growth of nanobacteria.

Chancapiedra’s name means “stone breaker” due to its ability to break up calcium phosphate crystals (bad calcium). This superherb’s historical use in achieving excellent gall bladder and kidney health is well-studied. In South America, Chancapiedra is also known for many other healing properties including helping: malaria symptoms, fever, flu, alleviating liver stagnation, improving digestion, and even as a mild laxative and pain reliever.

Precautions: People with heart conditions or taking prescription heart medications should consult their healthcare practitioner before taking this superherb. This superherb is generally not recommended for those with hypoglycemia symptoms.

4) Chaparral

Chaparral is a desert-growing plant that contains a powerful substance known as NDGA (nordihydroguararetic acid). The active ingredients are found in the leaves which can be soaked in water for an hour; this cold chaparral tea water is then taken internally or applied topically to the skin or hair. Chaparral has also been noted for its ability to ease arthritic pain, and contains potent antioxidants which may act throughout the body to help reduce inflammation.

Suggested Uses for Chaparral:
Make a cold infusion of Noni Leaf Tea and Chaparral. Both Noni Leaf and Chaparral contain a wide range of antioxidants, and work in combination to help protect our cells from free-radical damage. To make an even higher antioxidant drink, use this cold tea as a base for a smoothie or sauce made with Raw Cacao.
Both Chuchuhuasi and Chaparral hold the potential to relieve arthritic pain. Bring 3 cups of water with 2 teaspoons of Chuchuhuasi to a gentle simmer, and let simmer for one hour. At the end of the hour, steep 2 teaspoons of Chaparral in this tea. Let cool to room temperature, strain, and drink slowly throughout the day.

5) Sacha Jergón

Sacha Jergon is one of the main herbs in traditional Amazonian herbalism. Sacha Jergón helps improve the effectiveness of herbs that it is used with and is perhaps one of the best herbs in the world for liver support and rejuvination. This perennial herb grows wild in the Amazon basin up to the lower elevations of the Andes Mountains. The active elements of this herb are found in the tuberous off-white colored root. In its native habitat the root is pulverized in cold water and then drunk immediately for the highest level of therapeutic benefit. This herb earned its name due to its effectiveness in combating snake venom.

Sacha Jergón is as an activator of other herbs as well as a liver rejuvenator. Sacha Jergón provides the key that unlocks the potential of many of the extraordinarily rich herbs of Amazonia. Sacha Jergón can be used in conjunction with any combination of herbs to help improve immunity, cleanse the body, and restore optimal health and well-being.

NOTE: When choosing Sacha Jergon, look for sustainably harvested and wildcrafted products.
Raw Sacha Jergón powder is in a form which may be easily mixed into any juice, smoothie, or beverage. This herb has traditionally been used in cold water infusions, therefore no special preparation is required. Sacha Jergón mixes easily into cold water and has a mildly sweet taste. Sacha Jergón may even be mixed into a smoothie with Raw Cacao Beans to increase the antioxidant and heart-opening effects of the raw chocolate.

According to the 2003-2004 National Health and Nutrition Survey Examination Survey, about two thirds of the United States’ adult population is overweight – and fully one third of this group is obese. The percentage of overweight adults in the US increased from 44.8% to 65.2% from 1960 to 2002. During the same period, the level of obesity increased from 13.3% to 30.5%.

Somebody asked me why I believe we have an epidemic of obesity. That’s when I thought it would be important to discuss Syndrome X as this could be a syndrome that either ourselves or our loved ones are suffering from without knowing it. With more understanding about Syndrome X we create compassion for ourselves and others as well as gain greater understanding of how to strategically overcome Syndrome X with patience over time.

What is Syndrome X (Metabolic Syndrome)?

Decades of consuming conventionally-grown food, pesticide-sprayed and artificially-fertilized food, chemical preservatives and sweeteners, as well as literally being sprayed with chemicals beginning with DDT and automobile exhaust and now chemtrails has, over time, given rise to the development of a new syndrome, now known as – Syndrome X. It has been estimated that as many as 47 million Americans may be dealing with Syndrome X.

Syndrome X (or Metabolic Syndrome) is characterized by the inability to budge one’s metabolism no matter what techniques are tried. Syndrome X’ers usually have the following symptoms:

1.	Obesity (this is usually to such an extent that the individual has, in their heart, “given up.”).
2.	Thyroid disorders (likely caused by exposure to radioactive elements in the biosphere such as Uranium 238. Radioactive elements have been detected in conventional dairy products).
3.	Pre-diabetes hypoglycemia or diabetes type II (likely caused by too many refined carbohydrates, chronic mineral deficiencies, years of consuming toxic factory-farmed meat products, and the intake of trans-fatty acids over a lifetime).
4.	Immune System disorders (getting flus and colds each season may not sound like a disorder, but it certainly is symptomatic of a deficiency of the immune system due to improper nutrition and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. With proper nutrition and a clever strategy as well as natural factors such as exercise, fresh air, and sunlight, we should be able to avoid all flus and colds. Immune system disorders felt by Syndrome X’ers appear to be getting worse).
5.	Low energy – Due to carrying extra weight and a toxic burden, as well as interference in ATP production due to improper nutrition (lack of zinc) and heavy metal exposure many Syndrome X’ers have to resort to stimulants such as coffee and cigarettes to keep going.
6.	Inflammation – This is likely caused by an elevated nanobacteria count (nanobacteria are calcium-forming organisms like microscopic clams that initially cause inflammatory problems and eventually form the calcium blockages that lead to a heart attack or stroke as well as arthritis. The likely source of the overexposure to nanobacteria is factory-farmed meat products such as chicken, pork, and beef). Nanobacteria find it easier to grow in acidic tissues filled with trans-fatty acids, heavy metals, and synthetic chemicals.
7.	Reliance (or addiction to) one or more pharmaceuticals. In a “Drug Free America” it is amazing how many people are addicted to “legal” drugs.
Dissolving Syndrome X

The way to move Syndrome X off of one’s metabolism is to spend focused attention on the four following areas over a period of months or even years:

1. Shifting to an alkaline, balanced diet of organic, enzyme-rich, raw and living foods, tonic herbs, and superfoods.

All the symptoms of Syndrome X are associated with hyper-acidity. This has been caused primarily by consuming junk food and non-organic food, eating chemicals, as well as an overall focus on a “root (potato products), seed (bread products), muscle (meat, chicken), glue-like (pasteurized dairy) diet.” The “root, seed, muscle, glue diet” lacks certain key foods that create alkalinity (or more specifically) an acid-alkaline balance.

The alkaline-forming, organic, raw foods that can be added immediately to balance out this type of diet include:
•	Vegetables
•	Superfoods
•	Herbs (especially the Medicinal Mushrooms)
•	Seaweeds
•	Sprouts
•	Grasses (wheatgrass)

2. Detoxifying and cleansing the acidity present in the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of ourselves.

Acidity can also be created by other factors than food that should be cleansed in a step-by-step manner. These acid-forming factors include:
• Chronic dehydration – In order to remain hydrated both pure water and some full-spectrum salts are required. Discover the best water available to you. Cold spring water at the source is the best type of drinking water. I recommend Celtic Grey Mineral Sea Salt to meet your salt needs. Celtic sea salt should replace rock salts and kiln-dried salts in your home (such Morton’s Iodized Salt).
• Exposure to physical toxins – These toxins include chemtrails, pesticides, auto exhaust, nuclear fallout (depleted uranium 238 from the Iraq and other endless wars), as well as household toxins found in rugs and paint. Liquid Activated Zeolites play a critical role in helping to detoxify ourselves from these dangerous substances. 30-day detoxification systems such as the herbal EJUVA cleanse along with colon cleansing (colonics, enemas) also play a key role in helping our body dump toxins quickly.
• Emotional toxins (parental and spousal abuse and sexual abuse) – This is one of the key aspects of overall healing. Releasing and healing parental and spousal emotional abuse and sexual abuse will do more for improving your diet and life than just about anything else. Working with others (counselors, friends, shamans, spiritual leaders, psychiatrists, etc.) to release stuck emotions is a critical part of the healing process.
• Non-educational media (for example, the nightly news whose goal is to keep viewers hooked by a constant barrage of “shocking” bad news). The news is not the news, it’s the “olds” – the same old bad news. Turn off the news if you want to feel better.
3. Gradually stopping the intake of all pharmaceutical drugs.

Iatrogenic illnesses and deaths (caused by doctors due to inappropriate prescriptions and reactions to pharmaceutical medications and addictions) are now considered the third leading cause of death in the United States. The “pop-a-pill” culture drug concept and theory is completely bankrupt and totally incapable of dealing with the monumental challenges created by decades of massively toxic, chemically-sprayed and treated dead food, industrial toxins, charred petroleum debris in the atmosphere and soil, depleted uranium contamination, chemtrails, and massively contaminated municipal water systems (now known to contain drugs such as SSRI’s and synthetic antibiotics that reverse osmosis systems cannot filter out). Start healthy habits and stop taking drugs if you want to feel better.

4. Avoiding recreational drugs such as cigarettes and alcohol.

Abusing recreational drugs has been linked to nearly every health challenge known. Alcohol is a leading cause of dehydration, water retention, candida, bloating, inflammation, liver toxicity, nervous system disorders (schizophrenia), and vitamin B deficiencies.

Cigarettes become addicting because, due to stress (psychological) and poor nutrition (lack of vitamins and amino acids) vitamin B3 becomes deficient. Vitamin B3 or niacin is very closely related to niacinamide, nicotinamide, and nicotine. Nicotine from tobacco has the ability to “substitute” for Vitamin B3 in our metabolism. When we get Vitamin B3 back into our diet, this helps alleviate the desire for tobacco. The highest natural source of Vitamin B3 is the Amazonian Jungle Peanut. With the simple addition of one food like the Jungle Peanut , relief can be felt from cigarette withdrawals.

Recommendations:

Superfoods:
•	Amazonian Jungle Peanuts – A superb source of Vitamin B3. These peanuts and the peanut butter made from them are also wild foods with a high level of minerals and amino acids.
•	Cacao Nibs (raw chocolate pieces) – Chocolate always has been the #1 weight loss food due to its therapeutic content of magnesium, chromium, and iron.
•	Goji Berries – Goji berries are an extraordinarily nutritious, complete protein source. Goji berries taste great and make for a great snack, superfood alternative. Don’t be fooled by non-organic brands that are sprayed with sulfur dioxide. Go organic. Eat organic goji berries.
•	Maca – Maca helps to activate the glands and the endocrine system. The endocrine system includes the pineal, pituitary, thyroid, thymus, adrenals, ovaries, testicles, etc. Most Syndrome X’ers have glandular deficiencies (usually the thyroid). In addition, maca is excellent at increasing overall vitality and vigor. When maca is an aphrodisiac for you, then you know it is working.
•	Ocean’s Alive Marine Phytoplankton- This is the only bottled food product in the world that contains all known minerals. Mineral deficiencies cause us to continually eat until we get the minerals we are looking for. Because junk foods contains no minerals, eating them will never satiate the appetite. Mineral-rich Ocean’s Alive Marine Phytoplankton also contains EPA. EPA is an omega 3 fatty acid that is important for a healthy nervous system and brain chemistry. The GLA and phospholipids in the Phytoplankton have anti-inflammatory properties.

Herbs (Medicinal Mushrooms) and Botanical Supplements:
•	Reishi Gano 161 by Mushroom Science
•	Lion’s Mane by Mushroom Science
•	Agaricus H1X1 (the most powerful mushroom supplement available)

Syndrome X is often characterized by high amounts of tissue acidity. In order to create balance, alkaline nutrients, herbs, and superfoods are required. The Medicinal Mushrooms are the most alkaline of herbs. The Medicinal Mushrooms help restore a normal glucose metabolism as well as an active and healthy immune system. The polysaccharides in Medicinal Mushrooms also contain Ormus minerals that help bring “lifeforce energy” and “vitality” back into our bodies.

•	Beauty Enzymes – No weight loss program would be complete without enzymes. Enzymes are catalysts that help move a “stuck” metabolism. The key factor about raw and living foods and their ability to help get a Syndrome X metabolism going is their enzyme content. Supplemental enzymes like Beauty Enzymes make the difference and that is why the demand for this product is so high we can barely keep up with production. In terms of quality, there is no other product like Beauty Enzymes on the market. Test and you’ll be convinced.
•	Blue Mangosteen – Blue Mangosteen is perhaps the most potent natural anti-inflammatory botanical product on the market today that also fights debilitating nanobacteria.
•	DHA Algae Oil – DHA, like EPA, is an omega 3 fatty acid that is important for a healthy nervous system and brain chemistry. Long-chain omega 3 fatty acids like DHA are chronically deficient amongst the population, especially amongst long-term conventional-food consuming vegans and vegetarians.
•	Celtic Grey Mineral Sea Salt – Celtic sea salt contains four times the mineral content of any other salt including Himalayan salt (which is second best). Celtic salt is much fresher and more “living” than rock salts that come out of the Earth. A pinch or two of Celtic salt to a liter (quart) of drinking water can do wonders to increase your hydration.
Detoxification and Cleansing:
•	Liquid Activated Zeolites – This the most powerful single cleansing product ever developed. This product is proof that the more problems we face, the more powerful the solutions become. This product is the only product ever proven to remove heavy metals (mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium, etc.) and volatile organic compounds (synthetically made chemicals that can interfere with a healthy metabolism).
•	Angstrom Zinc – Syndrome X’ers are typically chronically deficient in zinc. Zinc plays a critical role in energy production as well as detoxification in the human body. Angstrom Zinc comes in an easy to use liquid form. This is the most effective form of zinc we have yet found.
•	EJUVA – EJUVA is an entirely organic 30-day herbal cleanse that generally is “softer” than most cleanses of its type. It is designed to help turn candida into healthy digestion as well as help assist the healing of digestive disturbances – especially small and large intestine (colon) challenges. EJUVA can assist the removal of toxic, old waste matter from the body. It is common for those on the EJUVA cleanse to lose 20 pounds in a single month.

ORMUS (sometimes also referred to as ORME, monoatomic elements, and/or m-state materials) is a class of physically distinct atomic mineral substances that are unique forms of matter that appear to be closer to the state of aether or vacuum or pure energy than normal matter such as the common mineral and atomic compounds found on Mendeleyev’s Periodic Table of the Elements.

These distinct substances also seem to be intimately woven into the fabric of living things. They appear to be associated with what causes everything to “live.” These forms of matter can have an attraction for the heavens, and through proper forms of motion and catalysts, they will aetherialize and levitate (or actually fall upwards). Such substances in spiral motion and in combination with hydrogen and sulfur compounds could be the cause of all plant and animal growth upward against gravity (we believe they can, under controlled scientific conditions, actually displace the force of gravity, thus causing levitation).

These substances are not like the other atomic units of matter found on the Periodic Table of the Elements. When isolated and separated from other parent materials, these substances display consciousness. They move to escape isolation by jumping (or teleporting) into nearby salts, oils, water sources, and even the atmosphere itself.

Ormus atoms or minerals are a chemically identified separate class of substances, just like the halogens or the metals, except that Ormus atoms do not find placement on the two-dimensional Periodic Table of the Elements. Ormus elements appear to be isolated or micro-cluster bits of atomic materials that are closer, as previously mentioned, to the pure energy state of the vacuum (aether or zero point). Ormus elements can have the visible appearance (when isolated and dried) of silicon-like, ceramic powdery substances.

Ormus elements apparently show up in our reality (deep in the Earth, in lava, in salts, in the oceans, in springs, etc.) as infolded substances that, under certain types of stimulation, will unfold into a metal. Ormus could be the source of all metals. Therefore, we identify the Ormus elements in relationship to the metal they can unfold into (e.g. Ormus copper, Ormus gold, Ormus rhodium, etc.)

This brings us to an interesting immediate supposition: what if the whole Periodic Table of the Elements, the scientific cataloging of the atoms (hydrogen, helium, carbon, oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, calcium, iodine, gold, etc.) is incomplete? Then everything we were taught about the atomic content of water, stones, precious minerals, gems, crystals, plants, animals, etc., is incomplete.

It has been discovered in this regard that what is being called carbon is actually not always carbon; sometimes it is something else. What is being called calcium is actually not always calcium; sometimes it is something else. What is being called silicon is actually not always silicon; sometimes it is something else. What is being called iron sometimes is actually not always iron; sometimes it is something else. And that something else is actually ORMUS.

This material is found inside of every human being. David Hudson, a present-day alchemist who “re-discovered” Ormus in basalt rock in the Arizona desert, indicates that as much as 5% of the dry matter weight of our nervous system could be Ormus elements (in particular: Ormus rhodium and Ormus iridium) based on Ormus extractions he conducted on calf and pig brains.

The rediscovery of Ormus in our times by alchemist David Radius Hudson appears to be one of the greatest scientific breakthroughs ever; it has revivified and given new meaning to history’s great alchemical writings.

Because of the dynamic nature of communication in our times, David Hudson’s information (as recorded and transcribed during his famous lectures for audiences in Dallas, Yelm, Vancouver, and Global Sciences, which are available on the Internet) reveals alchemical secrets in a format that is understandable and useful to the layperson as well as the curious home scientist or mld-mannered superhero.

David Hudson made some innovative discoveries. He found that Ormus minerals are present in animals, plants, and in the soil of the Earth itself in varying concentrations. Hudson also discovered that Ormus may be ten times more abundant in human tissues than all trace minerals (e.g. zinc, copper, iodine, chromium, etc.) combined. The implications of all this, as it pertains to nutrition, become obvious. What if we have been deficient in Ormus minerals? What if we’ve been taking the wrong kind of mineral supplements? Is it possible that we (and our ancestors) have never been filled to the brim with Ormus minerals? And therefore never achieved our full capabilities of personal power?

Hudson’s research led to the theory that Ormus elements can be accumulated by individuals who ingest Ormus in various forms (food, concentrated supplements, atmospheric sources, fresh spring water at the source, through the skin, psychically-meditatively). Ormus can also be excreted.

We suspect that Ormus can be accumulated and excreted from two types of evidence:
1) We find that the physical effects felt by those who take Ormus mineral supplements appear to accumulate.
2) Ormus elements can be extracted from urine. Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that the content of Ormus elements in the human body is dynamic, not stable.

We have found and collected data over a number years indicating that certain plants either “mine” and sequester Ormus elements within their living cells in higher densities than other plants or concentrate them in high quantities in ways that other plants do not. Even though this list is far from complete (and very rudimentary), we can now say with relative certainty that the Ormus-rich plants and edibles include:

Almonds

Aloe vera

Apricot kernels (the inner pit of the stone)

Bee pollen (wild, especially from volcanic regions)

Bloodroot

Blue-green algae from Klamath Lake, Oregon

Carrots (depends on the Ormus content of the soil)

Chamae Rose

Chocolate (organic chocolate contains Ormus nickel according to MiraculeWater.com)

Coconut water (wild)

Flax oil

Garlic

Goji berries (in the polysaccharides)

Grasses and grains (if grown with diluted ocean water or with the proper fertilizer; grasses and grains include wheat, barley, corn, rice, sugar cane, etc.)

Grape seeds

Honey (wild, especially from volcanic regions)

Larch bark

Medicinal mushrooms (reishi, cordyceps, coriolus, Fomes fomentarius, shiitake, maitake, etc.)

Mustard (brown and stone-ground as reported by MiraculeWater.com)

Noni fruit

Propolis

Royal jelly

Sheep sorrel

Slippery elm bark

St. John’s Wort

Vanilla (whole beans)

Watercress

White pine bark

It is becoming more and more clear that the superfoods and superherbs of the planet concentrate the Ormus minerals more than other foods. It is possible that future analytical data will support the presence of high Ormus concentrations in spirulina, chlorella, marine phytoplankton, maca, kelp (as well as other seaweeds), hemp (and many other seeds), nettles, asparagus, ginseng, astragalus, ho shou wu (fo-ti), cat’s claw bark, pau d’arco bark, tulsi, ashwaganda, tree sap (maple, pine), many of the berries (acai, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, schizandra, ginseng berries, spikenard berries, goose berries, Incan berries, etc.).

These are the primary foods of the superhero. Imagine the rejuvenation and hydration of every one of your cells. Picture your every cell as a galaxy with a spinning black hole (singularity) at its center and a renewed event horizon (membrane) allowing it to magnetize new energy levels, awarenesses, and cellular attitudes.

In the greatest movie of all the ages it appears that GMO popcorn and high-fructose corn syrup licorice are going to be replaced by the best food ever.

On his website SubtleEnergies.com Barry Carter lists at least six ways to concentrate Ormus out of natural substances in order to create what we will call “Ormus-mineral supplements.” We have pioneered at least two additional methods to concentrate Ormus in our laboratory (these were developed and perfected while producing Ormus gold). There are likely many other ways to create Ormus-mineral supplements or concentrates.

By using wood-burning stoves (not electric or gas) and fresh spring water we have demonstrated that during water-heat extractions of certain plant materials (especially tree mushrooms, vanilla, and goji berries), we can extract Ormus containing compounds (polysaccharides) intact into the tea.

A staple in the Peruvian Andes for thousands of years, this adaptogenic superfood increases energy, endurance, strength, and libido. Maca is a favorite of raw-foodists, vegetarians, adventurers, extreme athletes, dessert chefs and food alchemists.

Dried maca powder contains more than 10% protein, nearly 20 amino acids, and 7 essential amino acids. As a root crop, maca contains five times more protein than a potato and four times more fiber. Although maca is not a complete protein, it is such a great source of hormone precursors and amino acids that it provides many of the same benefits created by a high-protein diet. Maca invigorates; rejuvenates the endocrine system; benefits the thyroid, the sexual organs, and the adrenals; supports brain health and good neurochemistry; helps fight feelings of depression – in short, it is one of the most incredible foods on the planet. Not only does maca include a ton of nutrients, amino acids, fatty acids, but it also increases fertility. If you are having trouble conceiving a child, maca is a great food to add to your diet. Maca is also excellent for combating menopausal symptoms.
What is Maca?

Maca is a traditional staple superfood-food-herb from the harsh cold climates of the high Andes in Peru that has been used for thousands of years. Maca grows at an elevation of 11,000-14,000 feet, making it likely the highest altitude food-herb crop in the world. The character and properties of maca developed due to these extreme growing conditions. This makes Maca an excellent food-herb choice for individuals living in cold climates and/or at high altitudes and/or with extreme lifestyles.

Maca is a member of the cruciferous family of plants. It is a distant relative of the common radish. The maca plant produces leaves that grow close to the ground and the plant produces a small, off-white flower typical of the cruciferous family. The main part of interest for this plant, however, is the radish-like tuberous root.

Historical and Traditional Use of Maca

Archaeological evidence revealed that maca was domesticated over 2,000 years ago by the predecessors of the Incan people. Even today, for many indigenous inhabitants of the Andes, Maca is still one of the most vital and valuable of all commodities.

The maca root has been used over the ages for its nutritional and herbal qualities. Once harvested, the maca root was traditionally dried, then powdered. And once powdered, it was eaten or traded for other commodities. Often times cacao nibs and beans (raw chocolate) from the jungle were traded for the maca. These two foods (maca and cacao) have a unique affinity and history which is evident when one tries eating them together. Both cacao and maca were used as money by ancient indigenous peoples.

Maca’s Remarkable Reputation

Maca’s reputation as a powerful strength and stamina enhancer as well as libido-enhancing food-herb stretches back into prehistory. Maca, like goji berries and ginseng, is a powerful adaptogen, which means it balances and stabilizes the body’s systems (cardiovascular system, nervous system, musculature, lymphatic system, etc). As an adaptogen, maca can provide more energy if it is needed, but if it is not, it will not overstimulate. Adaptogens also boost immunity and increase the body’s overall vitality by 10-15%, according to most studies. Rather than addressing a specific symptom, adaptogens are used to improve the overall adaptability of the whole body to diverse and challenging situations and stress.

During the height of the Incan Empire, legend has it that Incan warriors would consume maca before entering into battle. This would make them fiercely strong. But after conquering a city the Incan soldiers were prohibited from using maca, to protect the women from excessive sexual impulses.

The Scientific and Health Properties of Maca

Dried maca powder contains 60% carbohydrates, 9% fiber, and slightly more than 10% protein. It has a higher lipid (fat) content than other root crops (2.2%), of which linoleic acid, palmitic acid and oleic acid are the primary fatty acids, respectively. Maca is rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, sulfur and iron, and contains trace minerals, including zinc, iodine, copper, selenium, bismuth, manganese and silica, as well as vitamins B1, B2, C and E. Maca contains nearly 20 amino acids and seven essential amino acids. Maca is also a rich source of sterols, including sitosterol, campestrol, ergosterol, brassicasterol, and ergostadienol. As a root crop, maca contains five times more protein than a potato and four times more fiber.

Peruvian researchers claim that maca improves memory, increases oxygen in the blood, improves the function of neurotransmitters and increases libido. One of the researchers heading current studies on maca, Peruvian biologist Gloria Chacon de Popivici, Ph.D., suggests that maca alkaloids act on the hypothalamus-pituitary axis and the adrenals. She has theorized that by activating these endocrine glands maca is able to increase energy, vitality and libido. Other researchers indicate that the effect of maca is more basic and that when the body is well-nourished, libido rises and depressing attitudes lower. Maca’s nutrient value could explain some of these purported actions.

Maca’s actions on sexual function are better researched than its effects on mood and memory. One study showed that maca increased fertility in rats. Then came studies of guinea pigs, rams, and cows, each of which corroborated maca’s libido-enhancing effects. For example, maca significantly increased ram semen volume and sperm count.
Researchers consider plant sterols, isothiocyanates, macamides and glucosinolates to be maca’s active constituents.

How to Consume Maca

Maca is generally purchased as a dried, raw, organic root powder. You may use a tablespoon or more of this powder in smoothies, teas, nut milks, coffee or just about any natural beverage you can think of. Maca is a great addition to desserts and sweet treats.

As previously mentioned, maca has an unusual relationship with cacao. Mix maca into all your favorite raw chocolate treats and experience real culinary magic.

Additionally, maca may be added to homemade jams, broths, puddings and fresh juices.

Maca has a slightly malted flavor and other flavor notes that are sweet and full. It has some minor taste qualities reminiscent of other cruciferous vegetables; these add some mildly spicy elements.

Can you eat too much maca?

Yes, if course! Maca is a powerful superfood-food-herb and should be consumed in moderation.

If you really love maca, use 1-2 tablespoons each day and it is recommended that you take a week off during every month of consistent use.

Are there any side effects or interactions to overeating maca? In toxicity studies conducted in the U.S., maca showed absolutely no toxicity and no adverse pharmacological effects. In animal studies, the more maca animals consumed, the stronger and more sexually active they became. Despite these findings, moderation is advised.
