Why You Need to Add These 7 Superfoods to Your Diet

There are many nutrient-rich superfoods that are easily available these days.  I believe that healthy eating does not necessarily have to be boring and so today I thought of sharing ways in which you can incorporate some Superfoods in your diet.

Although there is no scientific definition of a superfood, they are those food items that are nutritionally very rich and hence good for one’s health.

Here are 7 SuperFoods that you can easily add in your diet –

1. Avocado

I just cannot get enough of this delicious and healthy fruit. Packed with essential vitamins and Omega-3, it can be eaten in several ways. My favorite is a humble avocado toast paired with green tea – which makes you all set for a healthy breakfast. I also love this super-simple recipe of Avocado + Chicken Lettuce wraps that I shared a few days back.

2. Chia Seeds

Chia seeds may look tiny but don’t underestimate them. They are said to be packed with a punch of energy boosting power. They are popular for weight loss as they help to reduce cravings.

I love adding them to smoothies or top it on salads or even on oatmeal or yogurt.

3. Turmeric

Traditionally used in Asian cooking, Turmeric has become all the rage these days in the western world too. ‘Golden Latte’ (or Turmeric Latte) has been trending these days (have you jumped on that train yet?) It’s actually nothing new – it has been around ages! I remember how I used to run away when mom used to force me to drink Turmeric Milk (as we used to call it) when I was a kid.

You can add a tiny pinch of it in your green tea as well as add it while cooking things like stir-fry veggies, casseroles etc. Mostly known as a spice that is added to curries, it has a lot of medicinal properties too – like helping soothe sore throats by having a mixture of honey and turmeric powder.

4. Blueberries

Blueberries are one of the most famous superfoods out there. Packed with anti-oxidant properties as well as potassium and Vitamin C, they are also said to be anti-inflammatory. Yes, a blueberry muffin sounds awesome, but I personally feel the best way to have them is either in smoothies or just the way they are in the form of a snack.

5. Kale

If you love adding Kale (a fantastic source of calcium, fiber, and iron) in your salads or smoothies, that is awesome! Me? Not so much. That is why I love making Baked Kale chips every now and then. They are crispy and crunchy and you’ll forget that they are made from kale ????

6. Walnuts

A small handful of walnuts every day can provide you with healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin E as well as a lot of other essential nutrients. Research also says that they are good for the heart and help promote brain health. If you are not a fan of these weird-looking nuts, try sneaking them in your cereal or even in salads or wraps! They will add a nice crunch and won’t be too overpowering.

7. Dark Chocolate

I saved the best for last. Dark chocolate is a delicious treat that is said to be loaded with anti-oxidants and can even improve your mood! You can also combine chocolate and chia seeds and make a delicious Chocolate Chia Pudding or even better – a Peanut Butter Chocolate Chia pudding!

There are so many other foods that come under the superfood category like beans, salmon, tomatoes, cinnamon, etc. but for now, I’m going to end my post here.

Of course, as they say, everything should be consumed in moderation. And instead of focusing solely on a handful of foods claimed to be super, a balanced diet is what is important.
