We hear lots of talk about antioxidants and health, but do you really understand what they are and how they work?
We think you should.
Antioxidants are vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and other natural compounds that protect us from the harmful free radicals. These free radicals lead to DNA mutation which in turn causes disease and aging.
Here’s the important bit:
All antioxidants are NOT created equal so knowing the best food sources is vitally important.
In this podcast Shawn Stevenson examines antioxidants and the top 10 food sources.
You’ll find that MOST so called experts are NOT including these in their list of top antioxidant foods!
When you listen to the podcast below you’ll discover:

Hey Shawn do you know anything about eating too many anti oxidants? I feel like i got on a super antioxidant kick and started eating a bunch of these foods and now I cant eat hardly any of them. I get all itchy and covered in hives. I don’t like it 🙁 cause I love all of these things
That’s a great question. It’s much more than likely that it’s not the antioxidants, which something that I didn’t mention in the podcast is that they’re really just pigments of color that interact symbiotically with our body. It’s more likely that it’s one of several other factors in the foods: overexposure to certain minerals, source quality, balance of the overall diet ratio (acid/ alkaline, omega fat ratio, etc).
You see, there are so many factors to have a look at, I’d like to know more about which of these foods you’ve used and where you’ve been getting them from.
Thanks for sharing!
papaya with curcumin and canela spices.
EXCELLENT Jean-Charles! We’ll be posting a podcast on the Top Antioxidant herbs coming soon… turmeric (curcumin) is top of the list! And the enzymes in the papaya alone are something people need to take notice of. Thanks for sharing that!
Shawn,
What are your recommendations for the best sources (best efficacy) for attaining your ten favorite antioxidants that you mention. So many of the foods that end up on typical store shelves are either irradiated, poorly handled during processing, etc., Do you have favorite resources for attaining these superfoods?
Kimberly, that’s a great question, and one that I have devoted years to finding out the answer to… as for now, there are a few companies with incredibly high standards that I can reference people over to in good consciousness. I’ll share a couple with you, because I can literally write a whole book about it. I love HealthForce Nutritionals and I really like a company called “Tibetan Authentic” for goji berries.
We’ll see if we can do a post in the near future hooking people up with the best sources. Thanks SO MUCH for lending your voice, Kimberly… You may have just helped thousands of people with that one question.
Shawn,
Thanks for the good info. Oh, and keep in mind that much more people listen to the podcasts than actually comment. Take care!
Thanks so much. And I promise that I’ll remember that 😉
Shawn,
Thanks so much for that valuable information. I have one question. Where would I buy moringa? I never heard of this fruit until this pod cast. Also, would a powder form of this fruit be a viable substitute if it is hard to find? Denice
Hi Denice.
You can order moringa capsules here. You can also get moringa tea here
